Reach The Beach – summer of fun in folkestone

This summer Crosskeys Coach company are running a free bus service across Folkestone. The buses will run every half hour from 10am to 8pm.  Starting at Folkestone West buses will stop at Folkestone Central, Shellon Street, F51 on Tontine Street, and at the bottom of The Old High Street before its final stop at Folkestone Harbour.  You can get on at any point and did we mention it’s free?

Danny Elford from Crosskeys said: “We’ve planned the route with the help of KCC and Folkestone and Hythe District Council, and teamed up with South Eastern to provide a public service from the stations in Folkestone to the harbour this summer.   We believe that public transport is the way to travel, and with funding from KCC this is really going to help alleviate the congestion issues in the town.

We know that the Road of Remembrance is going to be closed until the end of the year, which does put a stress on the road system near the Harbour.  Our free service starts on 20th July for the school summer holidays and runs until 1st September.”

There is another Folkestone and Hythe District Council initiative to bring people to the town centre this summer, and will be served by the free bus service.  Folke About Town will put on 6 events from July to September including a Folkestone Food Festival, Skate-boarding and sports activities, live music performances, and an art market.

Diane Dever is the curator of these events: “With some of the Levelling Up funds that were awarded to Folkestone, we are putting on 6 events across the summer to involve and engage all members of our community.  The town centre always used to be a place to meet people and enjoy yourself.  We want to rebuild that with activities that cater for many different people in Folkestone.”

The Reach The Beach bus will stop at Shellons Street where passengers can pick up or get dropped off for all events happening in Guildhall Street and the town centre.  The bus service will then stop at F51 and at the bottom of The Old High Street.

The last stop is at Folkestone Harbour, just around the corner from the entrance to the car park.  The free bus service runs from 10am until 8pm, every day, and perfectly timed for families wishing to enjoy their holidays in Folkestone.
